Hello There!
Let me Introduce Myself
I am a British lady, over 50 and based in London. Coupled with this, I am retired and feel I’ve entered a period in my life where I want to make the most of every minute. I have the Freedom to Travel. My time is now my own and this time is extremely precious.
In addition to the above rather generic summary of myself, and perhaps, more importantly, I have a passion for travel and adventure.
Consequently, if I’m not to be found gallivanting the globe, then I’ll be found at home organising my next wonderful adventure. Let’s face it, those holiday blues are a real black cloud that no one likes looming over them for longer than necessary!
Although none of us like the feeling of getting older, there really are well earned benefits that come with it. Honestly!!
One of these is, of course, more time on our hands. This is where I find myself now and coupled together with relatively good health and a pound or two in my bank account, the Glamorous Gallivant is up and running.
A Little Backstory Behind the Gallivant
I spent my childhood living in Africa, the Middle East and Spain. This undoubtedly laid the foundations for my love of travel and adventure. It squashed any fear of exploring far away lands and fed my appetite for wanting to see more and more of this wonderful world.
Whilst later living in Hong Kong in my 20’s, I met and married my lovely husband. Apart from the enormous love we share for each other we both possess the wanderlust. This shared desire to explore beyond has and still is key to our lives.
Together and later with our 3 sons we continued to travel as best we could whilst balancing jobs, schools, family life, pets etc. However, as all of you who have had young families will know, this is not easy.
It does change the direction of your holiday choices for several years. The driving focus shifted from being self indulgent to holidays geared to ease and entertaining our active boys.
Fast forward 25 years and we have regained the freedom to travel as we wish. We are no longer focused on our careers. The constraint of tight budgets, school holidays or parental responsibilities. These loaded boxes have disappeared. The boxes have now been ticked.
I feel extremely grateful that this stage of my life grants me the freedom to revisit my passion for travel.
Retired, Comfortable and Looking for Adventure
So here I find myself ….
I realise this is the time. It is all about us now. It is our time to shine again and regain the spring in our steps. I almost feel as if the roles have now reversed in my household. The children are now working and trying to climb that greasy career pole and we are on our ‘gap year years’.
Do not underestimate this Freedom to Travel. Take hold of it and run with it. It is a very special time in our lives.
The Glamorous Gallivant Wants to Take You on an Adventure
The Glamorous Gallivant has embraced this and is enjoying every minute. And all of this…..without compromising on a bulging suitcase and make-up! Please come along for the journey. You have so much to explore in the beautiful world that we all share.
My friends have always joked that I should have been a travel agent. My family always said I’d missed my vocation as a journalist so here I am! I decided to combine both my passion for adventure and my love for writing.
Yes, I may be missing key ingredients to becoming a travel blogger like being a hot shot photographer or a creative web designer. However, I can offer you honest advice and tips on planning your next adventure. In addition to sharing personal stories and itineraries to inspire you towards embarking upon your own journey.
Please look at my About My Blogs to get a better flavour of my writings . Let me take you around the globe and introduce you to adventures that you perhaps wouldn’t automatically think of whilst sitting at home. Maybe you have, but think – am I too old? Is it safe? Is it just too much to organise?
I’d really like to use this site as a means to inspire you all and to guide you through planning your future trips. We are at a special time in our lives and with luck on our side it is time to enjoy every moment. Challenge yourselves and think outside the box.
