Da Nang

Why you Must Include Da Nang in your Itinerary

Sitting along Vietnam’s central coast, Da Nang is a dynamic city where natural beauty meets modern charm. Da Nang is known for its pristine beaches. It has dramatic landscapes and warm hospitality. It’s a popular Vietnamese destination that offers a perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and cultural discovery.

Da Nang, Vietnam

Da Nang boasts its own international airport. It connects to major cities across Asia, including Singapore, Seoul, Tokyo, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, and Taipei. This makes it a convenient entry point for international travellers. Additionally, there are frequent connections to other major Vietnamese cities, like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh.

Whilst you’re on your wonderful discovery of Vietnam, make sure you set aside some time to visit this coastline. You deserve some well-earned r&r. You’ll not be disappointed, the beaches stretch for miles and boast soft white sands and crystal clear waters.

What can You Expect to See in Da Nang?

Due, in part, to the introduction of an international airport, Da Nang is a city on the rise. The enormous development taking place to welcome the influx of tourism is undeniable. Huge hotel chains are opening up on the once undeveloped land. Investors are eagerly looking to double their money in this growing Vietnamese hotspot.

Whilst the obvious tourist impact is gradually changing the once sleepy Da Nang, it does offer something for every traveller. Whether you’re a beach lover, history buff, foodie, or adventure seeker, Da Nang is going to tick your box. It also acts as a great place to base yourself whilst you discover this coastline.

Personally, I had a feeling I’d arrived here 10 years too late. The stunning beaches were now dotted with huge hotels and between the dots even more concrete foundations were going down. That said, I had the most wonderful time. My luxurious hotel with daily spa treatments ticked my box. I found it very easy to reach Hoi An, Hue and other wonderful attractions.

Breathtaking Beaches

Da Nang
A little afternoon stroll

I do love the feeling of soft white sand beneath my feet. Blue waters, stunning beaches and the sound of waves rolling onto the shore all tick my box. Well, Da Nang is not going to disappoint.

It is home to some of Vietnam’s most beautiful coastlines. My Khe Beach was once named by Forbes as one of the world’s most attractive beaches. It is ideal for swimming, sunbathing, or trying out water sports. Non Nuoc Beach is tucked near the Marble Mountains. It offers a quieter escape with a backdrop of lush greenery and rolling waves.

Nature & Landmarks

Stepping away from the beach, you’ll find the Marble Mountains. They are a cluster of five marble and limestone hills, filled with caves, temples, and wonderful viewpoints.

A short drive inland from Da Nang, you’ll come to Ba Na Hills which offers a surreal experience. It has a mountaintop theme park and award-winning cable cars. But, don’t worry if you’re not a theme park lover as it also has the iconic Golden Bridge. Two giant stone hands hold the bridge aloft providing spectacular viewpoints.

Cultural Heritage

Beautiful Hoi An

While Da Nang is modern and progressive, it also sits at the heart of Vietnam’s cultural triangle. A short drive takes you to the ancient town of Hoi An. This is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Hoi An is famous for its lantern-lit streets and preserved architecture.

To the north lies Hue, the former imperial capital. Within Da Nang itself, you can explore the Cham Museum. It is home to the largest collection of Cham sculptures in the world. Also, visit colourful temples and bustling local markets.

Must See Attractions whilst in Da Nang

If you can drag yourself up from the white soft sands of one of Da Nang’s many stunning beaches, then here are several worthwhile attractions:

The Iconic Dragon Bridge

Shaped like a dragon that breathes fire and water during weekend nights. It’s dragon design is a symbol of power, nobility, and good fortune in Vietnamese culture.

In the evening, the bridge comes to life with LED lights that create a stunning nighttime show. It highlights the dragon’s curves and scales. For the best photos, watch the fire show from the east side of the bridge. You can also view it from one of the riverside cafes. Rooftop bars nearby offer great views as well.

The bridge serves as a main thoroughfare with six lanes of traffic. It links Da Nang International Airport with the beaches and My Khe coast area and the Son Tra Peninsula.

The Wonders of the Marble Mountains

A cluster of five marble and limestone hills, each representing an element, featuring caves, tunnels, and Buddhist sanctuaries. The 5 elements include water, wood, fire, metal and earth.

The Marble Mountains

The mountains have long been considered sacred by both Buddhist and Hindus. They also acted as a hiding place by Vietnamese soldiers during the Vietnam War. Thuy Son (Water Mountain) is the largest and most visited. There is a modern lift for easy access to the top.

Son Tra Mountain (Monkey Mountain)

Lady Budha, Da Nang

Home to the Linh Ung Pagoda and the tallest Buddha statue in Vietnam, offering panoramic views of the city.  The 67m statue is visible from various points in Da Nang and is now an iconic symbol of the city.

Cuisine & Nightlife

Vietnamese cuisine shines in Da Nang—from street food stalls offering savoury banh xeo (Vietnamese pancakes) and rich mi Quang noodles. Also, fresh seafood is served right by the beach. As the sun sets, the city becomes vibrant. There are lively night markets, rooftop bars, and riverside cafes. These are popular, especially near the illuminated Dragon Bridge on weekend nights.
