Santorini, Greece
This volcanic Greek Island experiences glorious sunsets. The white-washed architecture and the reflection of the Aegean Sea is bathed in colours ranging from bright rose-tinted pinks to lavender.
Santorini often features as the number one location for the dreamiest sunsets in the world.
The Taj Mahal, Agra, India
The white marble of the Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, sparkles brilliantly as the sun’s setting rays frame it. It is worth battling the crowds to appreciate and admire the glow that enshrouds this magnificent building.
Stand in awe on the bank of the river Yamuna in the Mehtab Bagh gardens to experience a complete panoramic view of the Taj Mahal. It is a serene moment in time that is unforgettable. The beautiful sunsets here are only matched with the mesmerising sunrise colours found in the early morning.
Grand Canyon, USA
This natural wonder of the world attracts millions of viewers every year. There are several locations where you can experience the mesmerising sunsets from around the rim of the canyon.
However, although busy, Mather Point in South Rim is considered the best place to visit to watch the sunset here. Wherever you find yourself, the Canyon transforms from bright orange to pink and purple in a matter of minutes.
Atacama Desert, Chile
The topography of the Atacama desert is silhouetted against the rich orange setting of the sunset making for a beautiful setting. There are various viewpoints but the fantastic lunar landscape of Valle de la Luna and the beauty of the desert as dark falls is mesmerising.
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Famous for its beaches, Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf Mountain and its carnival, Rio also boasts amazing sunsets. The beautiful golden glow that fills the sky is both mesmerising and calming.
Rio de Janeiro offers many incredible viewpoints. Arpoador is one of the best known places to watch the Rio sunset. However, looking down on the city of Rio and across to Christ the Redeemer from Sugarloaf Mountain is utterly breathtaking.
Please watch out for an upcoming blog on my trip to glamorous Rio where I not only enjoyed the iconic city but had front row seats at the infamous Rio Carnival.
Zanzibar, Tanzania
Zanzibar is an archipelago in the beautiful warm waters of the Indian Ocean. This group of islands is off the coast of Tanzania and is also known as the Spice Islands.
Its islands are so diverse in colour, that the stunning golden sunset in the evening is breathtaking.
Zanzibar and its beautiful coastline come alive like a painting as the evening draws in. Enjoy the spectacle from a dhow in the ocean or the beachfront alike to saviour the delights of a sunset in Zanzibar.
Florida Keys, USA
This is a great all year round holiday destination due to its relatively high temperatures even during the winter months. Key West, the southernmost point of Florida, in particular, offers breathtaking views of the pink and orange sunset from almost anywhere in the area. Check out Mallory Square.
Ibiza, Spain
The golden sunsets here enshroud the White Isle like a warm blanket. They must be some of the best in the Mediterranean. Orange, red, pink and purple tones come together to form a magical evening sky.
There are a number of great viewing points to capture this beautiful sight from Cala Conta in the west to Benirrás Beach in the north. Sitting with a glass of vino tinto and some tapas you will surely be lost in this dreamy setting.
Angkor Wat, Cambodia
The largest religious monument in the world is breathtaking in its own right. However, to view the magnificence of the sunset sky against this historic Buddhist building is truly a sight to behold. Added to this the reflection of the colours bouncing off the adjacent waters is just spectacular.
Both sunrise and sunset do get very busy so best to get in situ a good hour in advance. Either way, wandering between the temples as the sun gently skips on the horizon is spellbinding.
Bali, Indonesia
The crashing surf provides the perfect backdrop for a stunning sunset here in Bali. This Indonesian piece of paradise is packed full of idyllic beaches and natural wonders.
The colours are a spectacular array of purples, oranges, reds and bright pink. The lack of light pollution and topography of the island allows for incredible sunset views particularly on the West side of the island.
