Finally! The Travel Blogger within me Steps Out

Glamorous Gallivant Blogger

Nice to Meet You!

Wow! It’s hard to believe that I’m here in print on my website, the Glamorous Gallivant. I am now a Blogger! You may have read a little about me in my About Me page but just to dive a little deeper I thought I’d elaborate here.

My story is that I am British and living in London. I grew up as an expat child whilst my father’s career took us to Africa and the Middle East. Following that, I lived in Spain, Australia and Hong Kong. All of this, before I hit the grand old age of thirty.  I actually met my husband whilst working in Hong Kong but that’s a story for a completely different type of blog!

So in short, the wanderlust had taken its hold from a very early age. As a child, I believed travel was something we all did. I thought it quite normal to hop on a plane and travel to far flung lands. Clearly, as I grew older, of course, I realised this was far from the norm and now I believe how very fortunate I had been.

My somewhat transient upbringing laid the foundations for a life destined to “gallivant”. Consequently, i feel so blessed to have had this early introduction to the glorious globe we inhabit. That said, it has only succeeded in pushing me to seek more adventure.  More adventure away from the well trodden tourist paths.

What a Wonderful World

It is these paths that I wish to take you down with my blogs. I want to share with you my experiences and inspire you to seek out lesser known tourist destinations. Of course, I will also showcase some of the world’s favourite hot spots too. However, I urge you to “step out of the box” with me.

Undoubtedly, the world is vast BUT never has it been easier to travel from one destination to another. To make connections with people from all over the world. To learn about new cultures. I want to inspire you to take these steps, to experience all that the world has to offer.

That’s me! Despite my mantra being very much ‘age is just a number’.  My focus in my blogs is on adventures for the ageing baby boomers or generation X OR in simple terms the over 50’s.

Ouch, that’s it, I’ve said it!  I say this, as I, personally, don’t feel any different from when I was 20 but let’s face it, travelling at 50+ has different criteria to when we were 20.

If you are retired or about to retire, the Glamorous Gallivant will showcase destination guides and planning advice for your newfound life without work. As I grow my site and expand my blogging journey within it, I will be incorporating holidays and itineraries for those adventurers over 50 with one of the principal benefits of retirement –  more free time.

This is what you’ve dreamt about during your working life. This is what you deserve. Cast aside your thoughts of early morning alarms, commutes, office politics, stress and long hours. Retirement offers you the opportunity to experience new things and in particular travel. Bring on that bucket list.

This has undoubtedly allowed me to travel stress-free and of course, given me choices.

I must highlight this, as my travel experiences and guides will reflect holidays with affordable luxury. I know there are plenty of bloggers and guides out there that concentrate on more budget-friendly holidays so I know that if this is what you are looking for you will be well looked after.

I would like to say that all the gallivanting in the world would fade into insignificance if it wasn’t for my partner in crime and wonderful husband of 33 years. He is my travel buddy and these are adventures we enjoy embarking upon together.

That said, my travels are not limited to couples! They could quite easily be explored with friends, family or indeed solo.

There are, however, many travel blogs that cover “solo female travellers”, and this may be of interest to you. I know as a single female traveller, there are many other considerations, all of which are extensively covered by my fellow bloggers who specialise in solo travel for females. NomadHer and GirlabouttheGlobe are just two of the extensive resources out there.

Oh yes, I forgot to add – my travels and suggestions do not and will not involve travelling light!  I’m not sure I have ever owned a backpack and I’m certainly not starting now.  My travel clothes and accessories barely fit in my suitcase so the thought of downsizing would fill me with horror. No, I will be found in any airport, big or small, tugging my XL suitcase by my side.

….Not on the List but I do Love My Glam Gear

It has to be said, I do love my sundresses… accessories… makeup! Yes, that’s me – the “Glamorous Gallivant”. No matter if I’m driving on Route 500 in Bonnie Scotland or sailing around San Blas islands in Panama, I will have my glam gear stored somewhere.

My passion for travel coupled with my love of writing is here all in one place. To that end, I want to share with you many of my own personal globetrotting experiences accompanied by the odd self-indulgent selfie and beautiful location shots.

The purpose of which is to wet your appetite to these adventures and to get you thinking outside that box. I am eager to connect with those of a similar age to myself who need that little extra push to venture out to further pastures.

The Good Times Start Now

If you’re ticking those boxes above, you’ll know this is your time. A time in your life that you have the ability to choose, to choose to tick off everything on your bucket lists.

And, if you don’t have a bucket list, make one!

You now have the freedom to explore. This is the time where you can spend time on yourselves and release the adventurer within you.

In summary….

I look forward to introducing you to ‘tried and tested’ destinations that may never have been on your holiday radar. I will share with you personal experiences of destinations that perhaps are on your holiday radar BUT you require that extra nudge!

My blogs will work to engage your curiosity and stoke up the adventurer within you. A road trip through Namibia or detox in Sri Lanka, let me assist. I will help you to plan your bespoke itinerary and give you my honest opinions.

I would also like to guide you through the planning process, squash any fears and work with you to organise your dream holiday.  The very purpose of me starting this blogging journey is to inspire you to take your own personal journey.

So if you’re looking for exciting travel ideas with affordable luxury. If you’re looking for planning tips and itinerary suggestions or just like reading some rants and raves courtesy of the Glamorous Gallivant….please hang about.
